Platonov

Anton Chekhov. Scenes from country life

The play takes place in the space of the park and the Museum-estate of G.R. Derzhavin (Fontanka River Embankment, 118)
If you want – play with the guests in "stream" and fantasies, if you want – gossip with curious neighbors, and if you want – just wander along the paths and see how these nice and strange people live, on whose dacha you found yourself. And recognize in them yourself, in their doubts, in their desires, in their dreams – your own.
Chekhov wrote the play "Platonov" – aka "Fatherlessness" or "The play without a title" – when he was a student. Its manuscript was found after the author's death. In "Platonov" the roots of all Chekhov's dramaturgy are evident – only the ideas about people and events are still youthfully sharpened, judgments are sharp, evaluations are categorical.

This is a story about young, beautiful, cheerful and absolutely senseless people who have not learned to appreciate what life has given them, the people around them, friends and friendship, love and loved ones, who are constantly trying to get back the past, in which, as it seems to them, they were much happier than in the present. They have everything – looks, position, occupation, friends, a home where they are always welcome – so what are they missing, why can't they be happy here and now?

Waving in the hot summer days, sitting here and there, making unnecessary conversations, in fact all these people are agonizingly searching for their place in life. It constantly seems to them that they have made a mistake, and they are digging into themselves, looking for the moment of this mistake in the hope of correcting it, not wanting to simply realize it, accept it and continue to live with love and benefit.

The performance takes place in the park of the Derzhavin Museum-estate park.
